General Usage Instructions

Colour Tabs runs silently in the background once configured. You can access the settings dashboard from the Penguin Tools ribbon to customize the behaviour.

Core Features & Usage:

  1.  Project vs. Family Settings:

You can set distinct behaviors for Project Documents (.rvt) and Family Documents (.rfa).

For example, you might want all Families to have a subtle green “Top Bar” style to differentiate them from project work, while Projects use “Unique Per Doc” coloring.

  1.  Coloring Modes:

Unique Per Doc: The system assigns a distinct color to each document from a curated palette. All views belonging to “Project A” will be Red, while “Project B” is Blue.

*   By View Type: Tabs are colored based on their function (e.g., Sheets are White, 3D Views are Orange, Schedules are Green).

*   Single: A fixed color is applied to all documents of that category.

  1.  Styles:

*   Solid: Fills the entire tab background.

*   Striped: Adds a diagonal stripe pattern (great for visibility without being too loud).

*   Top Bar / Border: Adds a colored accent line to the top or border of the tab, keeping the background neutral.

  1.  Rules Engine:

*   Create specific overrides for high-priority projects.

*   *Example:* IF `Project Number` CONTAINS “1234” THEN Color = “Red” (Style = Solid).

*   Rules take precedence over general Project/Family settings.
